A Five-Volume Series 1999-2015

Founded in 1995, the Commission on Middle Paleolithic and Middle Stone Age Settlement Dynamics of the International Union of Pre- and Protohistoric Sciences represents the leading international forum on this topic. The commission has hosted meetings on several occasions and has thus far published five important volumes based on symposia in Forlì, Tübingen, Lisbon, Liège and Les Èyzies. Nicholas Conard, Fred Wendorf, Anne Delagnes and M. Gema Chacón Navarro have headed the commission over the years.

The five volumes from Kerns Verlag in Tübingen reflect two decades of research on the lifeways of late archaic and early modern humans across the Old World. Established researchers and young scholars have collaborated to present exciting and innovative research on human societies and their socio-economic systems. The work of the commission is conceived to be broad and goes well beyond issues of subsistence and mobility. The case studies presented in these volumes come from many of the most important research projects on the Middle Paleolithic and Middle Stone Age, and the volumes have always found a balance between studies rich in data and innovative theoretical and methodological research.

These volumes are standard references that belong on the bookshelves of all Paleolithic archaeologists.
